CODE: 4015 RANGE: 11 (Institutional) SALARY: $15.03-18.44/hr.*

(Inclusive of Direct Care & Recruitment Stipends)

Value of State-paid Health & Dental Insurance: $413.34 biweekly (90% State contribution)

Value of State's share of employee's retirement: 20.17% of pay.

  • In addition to base pay this position is eligible for shift differential, medication pay and direct care pay.

Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center (DDPC) is a 51 bed psychiatric hospital serving the State’s geographic area that provides services for people with severe mental illness. As a member of a state wide community of care givers, DDPC collaborates with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and their community and personal supports to provide recovery oriented, respectful, compassionate, and effective psychiatric care and treatment in the last restrictive, safest, and most therapeutic environment we can create.


As a Mental Health Worker I you will provide paraprofessional support work involving the direct care, rehabilitation, and behavior modification of patients at Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center. Your responsibilities would include implementing programs in the treatment or education of the mentally ill or developmentally disabled, providing direct patient care, and maintaining resident areas. In this position you may act as a group leader or primary aide over an assigned group of patients. Work is performed under general supervision.


A high school diploma or equivalent and completion of a Department approved training program or current valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant as issued by Maine Department of education. Preference will be given to those candidates with experience in mental health and those that currently hold certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant as issued by the Maine Department of Education.
