Job Description

To provide department based technical and resource management for pipe shop work across areas of the shipyard. Responsibilities:

• Act as the primary point of contact for the pipe shop in assigned areas of the shipyard. 
• Lead the execution of construction activities to support ship construction and test schedules.
• Provide technical guidance and oversight to pipe shop supervisors and mechanics.
• Monitor quality of work performed and ensure employees have adequate training to execute pipe work with first timequality.
• Work with area management to assign resources and resolve department deck plate problems.
• Make manning moves within assigned area, and recommend manning moves between areas.
• Accept joint responsibility with area management for trade cost and schedule performance.
• Identify and implement process improvement initiatives to achieve cost and schedule goals.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

• High School Diploma or GED required
• BIW graduate apprentice preferred

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years in marine pipefitting required
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory/management experience preferred.
  • Excellent administrative skills: effective interpersonal skills, demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, problem solving/decision making, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict and multiple priorities.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management System preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex technical documents & drawings.
