Process requests for patient's health information in a timely and efficient manner ensuring accuracy and providing customers with the highest quality work and customer service. Must at all times safeguard and protect patient's right to privacy by ensuring only authorized individuals have access to the patient's medical information and that all releases of information are in compliance with the request, authorization, company policy and HIPAA regulations. Responsible for reviewing and analyzing information in the electronic medical record against requests to ensure properly executed authorizations for releases. Assess requests for external reviewers of medical information, and help resolve quality issues. The ROI specialist will frequently communicate with administrative staff such as the hospital-based attorney, risk management office, and compliance officer.
A minimum of an associates' degree in Health Information Technology or related discipline or 2 years work experience required. Medical Terminology course completion required.
At least two years of prior experience in a healthcare setting or experience with Health Information Services is desirable.
Must currently be a notary public or be willing to become certified within 8 weeks of hire date.
Other Skills Required
Must have a skill set which calms and resolves patient-related requests or denials for requested information taking into account federal/state/hospital rules governing such releases. Must demonstrate the ability to work well with others and independently. Exceptional verbal and written aptitude for superior communication with the general public, other healthcare professionals, and patients. Must present in a professional manner. Position requires extremely close attention to details. Must remain well-versed in the Federal/State statutes, laws and regulations, most importantly HIPAA regulations, regarding release of information and the requirements and ramifications associated with them.
Individuals may be required to sit for long periods of time, bending and reaching frequently, stopping to grasp and obtain papers and files frequently during the day. Lifting up to 30 pounds occasionally and 5-20 pounds repeatedly throughout the day. This position entails extensive customer service and phone utilization, visual and auditory acuity, finger-wrist repetitive motion, and utilization of a computer/keyboard.
