Job Description

The Corrections Division of the Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the position of Corrections Officer. The Kennebec County Correctional Facility has three shifts that provide 24-hour coverage. Starting pay is $14.86 per hour with an excellent benefit package as well as the opportunity for advancement.

Corrections Officers ensure a high quality correctional facility by providing for the care, custody and control of inmates with supervision in their living areas and ensuring that inmates maintain cleanliness according to established rules and regulations. A high school diploma or equivalency is required as well as the Alert Test at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and Physical Fitness Test at Kennebec County. Successful candidates will attend an intensive onsite 6-week training program.

To apply for the position, applicants must complete the following:

    • Alert Test at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and achieve a passing score of 37 out of a possible 70. The Alert Test is administered the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at the academy and applicants must contact the Academy at 877-8000 to schedule the test. The cost of the test is $50 and is paid by the applicant.
    • Medical Examination Form must be filled out by your doctor
  • Corrections Application, Alert Test, and Medical Examination Form must be completed and submitted at the same time in order to be considered a completed application packet.

A Physical Agility Test will be administered at the Kennebec County Correctional Facility as part of the hiring process. Once your application has been processed, you will be notified of the date and time of the agility test.

An interview will be scheduled once all documents are completed and submitted to Human Resources.
