**Patrol Officer Openings**
The Bangor Police Department is actively recruiting new police officers. We need 84 sworn members to be at full contingent. We are hiring for the fall police academy in August 2019. The City of Bangor offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package to include vacation, holidays, sick leave, health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, “Aflac” supplemental insurance, employee assistance, uniforms and equipment.
The City of Bangor has reinstated the MPERS retirement system for Police Officers. Officers are eligible to retire at 50% pay of their top highest three years. There is no age limit to withdraw and for every year you remain vested after 25, you add 2%. Applicants can also choose an ICMA 401(A) retirement plan as well.

As a self-reliant department, that staffs a patrol division, support services division and a criminal investigation division we are able to provide unique and interesting opportunities for those seeking job satisfaction or advancement. We work in conjunction with a dispatch center located in our building that generates excellent officer to dispatcher relationships. A custody transport is never a long drive as our jail is only minutes away. Lastly, we are one of only three agencies in the state that investigates homicides.

In addition to the listed specialties, we train officers to be skilled instructors in various fields including EVOC, MARC, Firearms, SFST, Intoxilyzer, Crash Reconstruction, Forensic Mapping, Taser, Less Lethal Munitions, Physical Fitness, Handgun/Shotgun/Rifle armorers and R.A.D. Instructors.
Pre-Academy Salary: $832.00 to $849.20 per week depending on experience and qualifications. We provide educational and military stipends based on experience as well as a monthly cell-phone allowance.
Applicants are not required to have a degree but must be 21 years old to apply. If you are 20 years of age, you must have a minimum of 60 credit hours.
