The Bangor Police Department is actively recruiting new police officers. We need 84 sworn members to be at full contingent. We are hiring for the fall police academy in August 2019. The City of Bangor offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package to include vacation, holidays, sick leave, health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, “Aflac” supplemental insurance, employee assistance, uniforms and equipment. The City of Bangor has reinstated the MPERS retirement system for Police Officers. Officers are eligible to retire at 50% pay of their top highest three years. There is no age limit to withdraw and for every year you remain vested after 25, you add 2%. Applicants can also choose an ICMA 401(A) retirement plan as well. There are several opportunities for Bangor officers to work within specialized units/assignments. We offer assignments for the following specialties: Tactical Team Bomb Squad K9 Handler Special Enforcement Unit Evidence Technician Crisis Negotiator Criminal Investigation Honor Guard Special Enforcement Team Crash Reconstruction Crime Scene Investigation Drug Recognition Expert Urban Rifle Team Polygraph Examiner School Resource Officer Traffic Enforcement Specialist Field Training Officer Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) Investigator In addition to the listed specialties, we train officers to be skilled instructors in various fields including EVOC, MARC, Firearms, SFST, Intoxilyzer, Crash Reconstruction, Forensic Mapping, Taser, Less Lethal Munitions, Physical Fitness, Handgun/Shotgun/Rifle armorers and R.A.D. Instructors. Pre-Academy Salary: $832.00 to $849.20 per week depending on experience and qualifications. We provide educational and military stipends based on experience as well as a monthly cell-phone allowance. Applicants are not required to have a degree, but must be 21 years old to apply. If you are 20 years of age, you must have a minimum of 60 credit hours.
